Dubai 3-Day Itinerary - What To Do + Tips

Whenever I thought about visiting Dubai, I was pretty sure it wouldn’t be my kind of place—too modern, overly polished, and not exactly exciting for travelers without a deep pocket.

But the moment I stepped into the city, it felt like we’d traveled 50 years into the future—and all our doubts (and prejudices) were replaced with awe. Of course, tastes differ, and we’re not saying Dubai will win over everyone, but there’s no denying that the entire city is an architectural and engineering marvel.

If you’re like me and weren’t sure what to expect, trust me—Dubai has a way of winning you over. Here’s my 3-day itinerary, packed with experiences that completely changed my perspective!

Day 1: Marvels of Modern Dubai

Morning: Start Big at Dubai Mall

Kick things off at Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destination. But trust us, this isn’t just another mall—it’s an adventure. After grabbing a coffee, explore the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, featuring sharks, rays, and thousands of sea creatures. Feel like skating? Hit the Dubai Ice Rink, or if you’re a tech enthusiast, check out the VR Park for mind-blowing virtual reality experiences.

How should you dress in Dubai?

Pretty much the same as you would at home. Dubai is one of the most visited cities in the world, and compared to some of its neighbors, it’s quite liberal. That said, while there are no strict dress codes, it’s worth keeping in mind that you’re in a Muslim country. If you’re visiting mosques, you’ll need to dress modestly—for women, that means loose-fitting clothing that covers the entire body and a headscarf to cover your hair.

Also, keep in mind that while it’s almost always warm outside in Dubai, indoor spaces can be chilly. Shopping malls and hotels often have the air conditioning cranked up to much cooler temperatures than outside, so if you’re spending a lot of time indoors, you might even need a light jacket!

Afternoon: Reach New Heights at Burj Khalifa

Right next to Dubai Mall is the towering Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. Pre-book your tickets for the At The Top observation deck (levels 124 and 125) to avoid long waits. The 360-degree panoramic view of Dubai’s futuristic skyline and desert beyond is absolutely worth it.

Pro Tip: If you’re feeling fancy, book the Sky Lounge experience on level 148 for an even higher vantage point.

Evening: Dubai Fountain Show and Downtown Vibes

As the sun sets, head outside to the Dubai Fountain. Watch the water dance in sync with music and lights—it’s a magical experience. Wrap up your evening with dinner at Time Out Market Dubai or one of the many restaurants offering views of the fountains. Try something international, like sushi or tacos, to match Dubai’s cosmopolitan flair.

Day 2: Dive Into Dubai’s Rich Culture

Morning: Stroll Through Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood

Start your second day by exploring the charming Al Fahidi Historical District. This cultural hub is a refreshing contrast to Dubai's modernity, with its narrow lanes, sand-colored wind towers, and traditional courtyards. Visit the Dubai Museum, housed in the Al Fahidi Fort, to learn about the city’s transformation from a fishing village to a global metropolis.

Don’t Miss: A cup of Arabic coffee at the Coffee Museum—it’s an experience, not just a drink.

Afternoon: Cross the Creek to Dubai’s Souks

Hop on a traditional abra (wooden boat) to cross Dubai Creek, a picturesque and budget-friendly way to travel. On the other side, dive into the vibrant Gold Souk and Spice Souk. Even if you’re not planning to shop, the sights, scents, and energy of the souks are an unforgettable experience.

Pro Tip: Bargaining is a must here—don’t settle for the first price offered!

Evening: Desert Safari Adventure

Your Dubai experience isn’t complete without a desert safari. Book an evening tour to explore the golden dunes, go dune bashing in a 4x4, and try sandboarding if you’re feeling adventurous. Many tours include camel rides, henna tattoos, and a traditional BBQ dinner with live performances under the stars. It’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in Dubai’s desert charm.

Day 3: Beaches, Palm Islands, and Marina Magic

Morning: Relax at Kite Beach

Kick off your last day at Kite Beach, one of Dubai’s trendiest spots for sun, sea, and sand. Whether you’re paddleboarding, enjoying fresh açai bowls from a beachside café, or just soaking up the rays, this beach has something for everyone. With views of the iconic Burj Al Arab, your Instagram feed is about to level up.

Afternoon: Discover Palm Jumeirah

Head to the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai’s famous man-made island shaped like a palm tree. Start with a visit to The Pointe, a waterfront dining and entertainment destination offering spectacular views of the Atlantis resort. For thrill-seekers, consider booking a ride at Aquaventure Waterpark or trying indoor skydiving at iFly Dubai.

If you prefer a more chilled vibe, stroll along the Palm Boardwalk and grab a bite at one of the trendy cafes or food trucks.

Evening: Soak Up Dubai Marina

End your trip at Dubai Marina, the city’s glitzy waterfront district. Stroll along the Marina Walk, lined with cafes, boutiques, and yachts. For a unique perspective, book a sunset dhow cruise, where you can dine while taking in the glittering skyline reflected on the water.

Looking for nightlife? Check out one of the rooftop lounges like Atelier M for chic cocktails with stunning views.

Travel Tips for Dubai

  • Getting Around: The Dubai Metro is fast, clean, and budget-friendly. For more flexibility, use ride-hailing apps like Uber or Careem.
  • Dress Code: Dubai is modern, but it’s respectful to dress modestly, especially in cultural areas. Beachwear is fine at beaches and pools.
  • Currency: The local currency is AED (Dirhams). Credit cards are widely accepted, but always carry some cash for small purchases.
  • Best Time to Visit: Dubai’s weather is ideal from November to March, so plan your trip accordingly.

Final Thoughts

Dubai is truly a city like no other—a place where ancient traditions and futuristic innovations come together in the most fascinating way. Whether you’re standing in awe of the Burj Khalifa, wandering through vibrant souks, or riding camels in the desert, this 3-day itinerary has everything you need to make the most of your trip.
